I haven't watched anything of this Dauphine (child-walking duties), but it might turn out to be the best race of the year, just like last year...
It's not the best race of the year if you've got Froome, Frank and Meintjes in your draft auction team. Bah!
What a stage, what a stage, what a stage! Can it get any better? What a year!
The trickle of teams into the competition stopped today. There were actually no (!) teams added to the competition overnight and we stand at 893 teams in the competition.
There were 130 unique scores, dramatically down from yesterday's 157.
What riders were in the most common team?... Well, there's a lot of variety, but it looks like the most commonly shared rider today was Simon Yates...
Today's average score was 78.4 points. Slightly higher than yesterday's 74.8.
The most common score, though, was 92 points (The 38 teams from above).
As a reference, the average scores for previous stages was:
Stage 1 67.5
Stage 2 82.2
Stage 3 82.2
Stage 4 70.5
Stage 5 74.8
Today's 'Perfect' team?...
34.1 Vincenzo Nibali
29.5 Rui Faria Da Costa
25.3 Tony Gallopin
22.5 Simon Yates
10.8 Tiesj Benoot
9.1 John Gadret
5.7 Tobias Ludvigsson
3.1 Robert Kiserlovski
What? No Valverde in there? What the fu$@? This is looking like Valverde might not make the 'Best Possible Purist Team'!
This team would have come in at 140.1 credits and would have yielded you a grand total of 216 points. It was better than the best 'Actual' team (Viking UK, Viking) by a margin of 60 points... But who had the nouse to foresee today's stage and make all the transfers necessary to put this team together?...
Hmmm...No Froome or Valverde in there today... Hmmm...
3rd in FS and 6th in this
Nice. How many transfers do you have left
Yeah ..........none/nada/zip/zero
FS doing really well in this comp. Lying 39th overall, but only 9th in FS.
That's hilarious! I finished 5th from last yesterday with a pathetic 6pts, - was so pee-ed off I gave up and didn't bother making any transfers - and finished 5th today!!!
Yesterday:
Julian Alaphilippe DS Etixx - Quick Step 0
Rohan Dennis DS BMC Racing Team 0
Rui Faria Da Costa DS Lampre - Merida 0
Vincenzo Nibali DS Astana 1
Robert Kiserlovski DS Team Tinkoff-Saxo 5
Fumiyuki Beppu DS Trek Factory Racing 0
Marcel Wyss DS IAM Cycling 0
Tony Gallopin DS Lotto Soudal 0
Total 6
Today:
Julian Alaphilippe AR Etixx - Quick Step 0
Rohan Dennis AR BMC Racing Team 0
Rui Faria Da Costa AR Lampre - Merida 48
Vincenzo Nibali KM Astana 55
Robert Kiserlovski DS Team Tinkoff-Saxo 9
Fumiyuki Beppu DS Trek Factory Racing 0
Marcel Wyss DS IAM Cycling 0
Tony Gallopin AR Lotto Soudal 28
Total 140
Well I expected to plummet after calling today so wrong, but it appears most others did two and I actually went up 2 places to 2nd overall. I'm stunned.
just noticed Mollema rolled in 8th from last 36:25 down. that's him off my long list....
16 DNF/DNS today, 10% of the field!
1 COSTA Rui Alberto
2 NIBALI Vincenzo
3 VALVERDE BELMONTE Alejandro
4 GALLOPIN Tony
5 YATES Simon
6 MARTIN Daniel
7 GADRET John
8 BENOOT Tiesj
9 FROOME Christopher
10 INTXAUSTI ELORRIAGA Benat
11 VAN GARDEREN Tejay
12 KISERLOVSKI Robert
13 KELDERMAN Wilco
14 TALANSKY Andrew
15 VALLS FERRI Rafael
16 RODRIGUEZ OLIVER Joaquin
17 BARDET Romain
18 DE LA CRUZ MELGAREJO David
19 COURTEILLE ARNAUD
20 CASTROVIEJO NICOLAS Jonathan
Ugh... No. 19 COURTEILLE ...
Another poorish day
Just 3,5,12,16,17.
Think i may axe j-rod tomorrow tho....
Anyone without Valverde is going to get crushed today as can't see too many having Costa or Nibali. Can't even imagine how many points Valverde must have scored today.
what a stage! Just goes to show that it can all change in one day!
Still got confidence in Froome, 2moro is a big day, Nibali looked like he emptied himself today, be interesting to see how he recovers.
No changes for me today, still got 8 transfers!
3,5,9,12,17,19
No way! Amazing!
.
Nice!
Was actually 3,5,9.... rather than 2nd.
Would never stick Nibali in my team
When you go all in, it tends to blow up in your face.....
Took Nibali and Valverde out.
No transfers left.
TDS now the focus.
...and the irony, my purist team has Valverde and de Costa...
Wow... I couldn't imagine anyone picking Costa for this race... nice!
I wonder if anyone brought in Costa in the Standard game?...
.
Beautiful stage! This has been the most exciting Giro - Dauphine in the last 10 years! What a treat!
He is usually in good shape around this time. But still..
Why is that enrique?
Costa has won the TDS last three years running.
My point exactly. Not really sure why i didn't pick him. For the purist at the least.
Well, I was expecting such a dominant performance by other riders that I thought with the noose of limited transfers in the Standard game, no one would bring him in for today's stage and with the dominance I expected from the other riders, he would occupy too much space for the Purist team! I can't wait to see if he'll be in the 'Best Purist Team Possible', though... Sometimes I love being wrong...
Anybody else kick Nibali out yesterday?
I'm a fan and should have kept faith!
Or Valverde for that matter
Result of 1st cat. KOM col du Rousset at km 132:
1. Vincenzo Nibali, 10 points
2. Alejandro Valverde, 8
3. Rui Costa, 6
4. Tony Gallopin, 4
5. Tony Martin, 2
Phew. Glad i made the switch with Alaphilippe.
and another one goes
Arnold Jeannesson (FDJ)
Nibali, Valverde, Gallopin and Costa have joined T Martin they are now 3.15 ahead of the favourite group.
Julian Alaphilippe and Maxime Bouet abandon.
Poor lad must be knackered by now.
