I just hope Dave is able somehow to police those with 3,4 or 10,000 accounts and have them put in the stocks.
I feel like I started this by haphazardly mentioning I was planning on stage hunting with a second account to go with my purist "premium" account. Honestly, it had nothing to do with prizes or anything like that, but it has more to do with enjoying playing the game. Given all the uproar (and in spite of Dave's post saying it's OK) I'm happily keeping one account and probably busting up my purist team, unless it looks really good, when I return from vacation.
It's all in fun and I certainly didn't want to start a controversy.
I have been tempted to set up a second team to play purist but I agree with GKAM. The rules say one account per user so I'm sticking to the rules, as we all should. My suggestion which I have made before is in 2013 to have the ability to have 2 teams under your (one) account. If you take up the option to play the second team it is for purist only.
Agreed, this is almost impossible to police, two people in the same house playing legitamately looks exactly the same as one person playing two accounts under two names. Likewise some companies will use the same IP address for all those accessing the internet via their internal network so lots of connections from one source could be one person or many. I guess the road.cc guys just have to rely on honesty...
For Premium users it's probably less of a problem because I can't see lots of people paying a few lots of £7 to have more chances of winning the bike, and if they do, well it's more money to support the game infrastructure I guess.
This is a tough one to `police`,shall we say....I agree that people should only have one team...However,my girlfriend is also a premium user, but most of the time we only have access to the same laptop, and so amend our teams using the same connection......
Now that could be a sneaky way of running two teams, but its not.....
So I would just hope that the cycling fraternity is a tad more honest than society as a whole.....
Floyd Landis and David Millar wholeheartedly agree!!
I am however in the same boat as you as regards to one PC at work being used to run two (premium)accounts. We also discuss our transfers so probably have pretty similar teams at times.
What's wrong with having a (premium) account to play the full game and another for the purist game? They may as well be completely separate games, playing purist gives zero chance of winning the overall and little chance at stage wins so its not having my cake and eating it, its being able to enjoy all aspects of the game.
Re having an account for stage wins I agree that's probably a step too far but it would be naive to think that some players don't have multiple accounts going after the overall, limiting the big prizes to premium players will probably solve part of that but these accounts still exist and no doubt are still being played.
Nothing seem's to be done about them, but there are a few talking about having a second account, which, in my eyes is wrong. No matter if one is for purist or not.
I know its "just a game" but its a game with some valuable prizes to be won, you should only be allowed one team, END OF, no if's or but's. If there is no clamp down on this, Whats to stop me opening 100 accounts all with different combinations of riders to make sure i either win stages or the overall bike prize and then just have them shipped to family and friends
As i said in another thread, i'm pretty sure the T's&C's stated one team only last year??
