New for 2014. La'al Lakeland 100 and the Cumbrian 200. Two very scenic tours of the Lake District, out of the Lakes School, near Windermere. £5 for AUKs, £7 non-members. Entries via AUK website (see contact above).
The 100 is subject to a low minimum speed, so enjoy the scenery and have a café stop or two as you go round. Bring a camera - The Lakes is well known for its long days of warm sunshine in May. Wrynose, Hardknott, Birker Fell, Gummers How and Scout Scar. What's not to enjoy!
The 200 is a bit more of a challenge, but with about 4,000m of descent, it's sure to be enjoyable. North round the back of Skiddaw, then over Newlands (what amazing views!), Cold Fell, up Wasdale and back, Birker Fell, the rarely climbed (but always delightful) Kiln Bank, Coniston, Hawkshead and then back to base. Parking at the start, plus refreshments, all included.
It's an audax day out - so expect a lovingly crafted routesheet, but not much in the way of signage, timing tags, marshalls or sag wagons.
Carry your brevet card around the route and after successful completion of the ride it will be validated by AudaxUK. Old hands will clock up 2pts plus 4AAA, others will get a taste of what audax riding is all about. You never know, you could be riding P-B-P in 2015...
They've got GPS tracking information, so the app can not allow the journey to be "finished" unless the bike is left in an authorised parking...
An excellent idea but then - due to expensive lawyers and accountants - no doubt the richer would be found to personally not own or control a penny...
Re: the shipping container bike lane......

There is an increasing 'disconnect' between comments in this topic and reality. Cords are either all cotton or mostly cotton and are going to last...
There are people out there who will make you the belt out of your old tyre.
Furry dice and an air freshener for your helmet.
