If you have a baby then it's a spin bike you're looking at. Preferably a magnetic resistance one. Mine has a leather pad and it's quiet enough to use in a flat. Magnetic one would be brill though.
They're fine for sufferfests as you throw on your HRM and cadence sensor and off you go. Works fab with new sufferfest app.
Zwift is a nightmare though, you need to fork out for a pricey power meter pedal on top of the spin bike cost to get into that.
Or find a way to make speed work on the spin bike. I tried for a while but it kept breaking (hatchet speed sensor job on the front flywheel).
I got a BH Duke spin bike. Cheaper than some smart turbos actually. Really want to play Zwift too though...
I have the Elite Crono Fluid ElastoGel Trainer which still made a bit of noise when using it.
I was set up directly on a concret floor in the kitchen & with the other half making comments about having to turn the TV up in the next door room due to the extra noise so I purchased some foam matts from Ebay,
With the turbo set up on theres its almost wisper quiet & the other half can have the TV at her normal level.
Now as CXE94Di2 has said above the noisiest thing is the cooling fan
All trainers are roughly the same for noise especially the better ones. Noise transmission through the floor is more of a concern. A good sound deadening mat will help. Now the noisiest item will be the cooling fan. If you don't use a fan then you will overheat very quickly when working hard.![4](https://cdn.road.cc/sites/all/modules/contrib/smiley/packs/smilies/4.gif)
Plus side, children sleep through earthquakes:) your missus will hate the noise, but that is what the volume control is for on the tv
30 mins to an hour is all you generally need to get a great workout
If you value your marriage don't exercise in the same room as she is watching tv!
All staionary trainers make noise, some more than others, some much less than others. And, no one can tell you what noise level your Mrs and little one will find acceptable. IMO, I suggest you visit various LBS to try out trainers first hand. Be sure to check the LBS return policy as what you think is acceptable in the store may not be so at home.
