Good piece. I've always had my fair share of abuse/close passes/horn blasts over the years but I really noticed an uptick in it from 2016 onwards. Will say no more....

Interesting - our self identification as a group called "cyclists" sets us apart from our fellow humans driving cars, unlike those who travel by foot. This triggers all the us/them tribal instincts.

The self-identification takes the form of all the gear we wear (yes, lycra gets a mention), which is not so much the case for our continental cousins (think images of Danes on city bikes wearing everyday clothes, as opposed to Brits on racing bikes in club colours and cleats). Interestingly, part of the pernicious tribal marking is the wearing of helmets. I'll just leave it there.
