Ah yes - it's not so much that our streets are too narrow (to have space for people walking and cycling).  They're not wide enough (for parking both sides, plus two lanes for the size of car we aspire to and our actual driving skills, plus what if someone's stopped - you have to be able to get past them?

Infamous bollards in a Watford cut-through which hit headlines could be scrapped and replaced with a weight restriction

Do you think that they'll control the weight restriction with a trap door?

Clearly fake news - we all know that more cars equals thriving local shops.

Hundreds 'ignore roadworks' in Staffordshire as crews hit with abuse

On the road where I work, they started replacing (or lining) the main gas pipe under it - big sections dug up. Thankfully it is just a minor road that runs parallel to the main road*. A few days after they put up all the "ROAD CLOSED" signage and cones, they had to actually dump a couple of tonnes of dug up road across the road to block access to cars, as people were moving the signs and forcing their way past!

*yes, you guessed it - people speed down the minor road in an attempt to skip the queue of traffic on the main road.

Driver caused cyclist catastrophic injuries when he sped through red traffic light

The teenager was crossing the road when Jerzy Jozefiak ploughed into him

Sian Cutter, prosecuting, said at shortly before 2.30pm a 16-year-old boy on a cycle was crossing the eastbound carriageway at the light-controlled junction when he was hit by a Renault car. The youngster struck the windscreen and roof box of the vehicle before being thrown to the ground and skidding along the road, coming to rest some 20 yards away.

Jozefiak's stopped his car in the nearby bus stop on Fabian Way and got out - his wife then climbed across into the driver's seat from the passenger seat. The court heard she too then got out of the Renault and told passers-by that she had been driving.

https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/traffic-lights-cyclist-dan...

Quote:

With a one-third discount for his guilty plea Jozefiak was sentenced to two years and 10 months in prison - he will serve up to half that period in custody before being released on licence to serve the remainder in the community. The defendant was also disqualified from driving for two years with the ban extended by an additional 17 months to account for the length of time he will be behind bars.

Hang on - but he initially tried to pervert the course of justice by getting his wife to claim that she'd been driving.  And only changed his plea to guilty at a much later date.  Why does he get a discount??

And don't get me started on him serving "up to" 2 years and 10 months...  <shakes head in a disgusted fashion>

It seems to me drivers get longer sentences for things they did afterwards, like covering up their tracks like a snivelling coward for example, than the deed itself.

I really think there needs to be some kind of ethics/empathy test for drivers.

London's low emission zones have improved air quality, study suggests

The introduction of low emission zones has also led to a reduction in hospital admissions for respiratory conditions, researchers say.

Script for Scooby Doo episode

Fred: now let’s see who’s been terrorising the Vatican City (removes rubber Pope mask)

All: Archbishop Welby!

Welby: Curses! And I’d have gotten away with it too if it wasn’t for you pesky meddling kids

Fred : Officer, here’s your man

Pope : Now I can be myself again!

Daphne : you sure can, Your holiness

Shaggy : but what I don’t understand is how he did it

Fred : (flashback cutaway) when the real pope was preparing the communion wine, Welby switched the chalices and gave the Pope a sleeping draught. Then all he has to do was say mass and everyone was fooled.

Shaggy : but Scooby smelt something was off

Scooby: yeah yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah

Fred : and that made the Swiss Guards suspicious, but we needed proof…

Thelma : which I got when I overheard Welby saying that opinions were divided about transubstantiation

Daphne : for a little while there, the Pope wasn’t Catholic - your holiness it’s great to have you back

Pope: it’s great to be back, and I owe it all to you - and Scooby Doo

Everyone : dissolves into laughter as Welby is led away by the officer

While on a walk through Eaton Park earlier this week, John Fielding was confused to find a weight restriction had been placed on one of the car parks by the city council.

A sign put up at the site closest to Colman Road prohibited any vehicles over 1,524kg (1.5 tonnes) - essentially banning the majority of electric cars.

Hearses and black horses lead protest against parking charges

Cheshire East Council is proposing changes for the 59-space car park

"The hearse was to reflect that this would be the death of the village. By imposing the charge, it will impact the way of life in the village. People are annoyed and dismayed at this."

"In the report, it outlines the car park will generate an income of around £25,000, and so we’re not talking significant amounts here."

Which is it, Mr Bugeja?
