Seafront road labelled 'confusing' as driver filmed going wrong way

It is almost a "daily occurrence", according to locals

Cyclist David Guest was following a car down The Beach on his pushbike this week when he saw a motorist turn off the mini-roundabout at the Alexandra Road junction and drive the wrong way along the seafront.

The woman was forced to drive onto the pavement to allow cars heading in the right direction to get past. Mr Guest pulled alongside the driver and explained the road was now one-way, only to be told that she hadn’t seen the signs.

Locals forced to jump out of way of vehicles driving on pavements in Somerset village

A demonstration is planned to highlight the growing problem

Lisa said residents have reported vehicles travelling at 20mph while mounted on the pavement, pedestrians jumping out of the way of vehicles and car mirrors being hit by passing vehicles. Lisa added: “We have people who live here afraid to walk out of their houses as they have nearly been run over on the pavement.“

We're in "Mr Simpson, the tar fumes are making me dizzy territory/ Yeah, they'll do that" territory here - this is the future for some many of us, unless something changes.

Winchester Community Choir on city centre parking charges

A WINCHESTER choir has been losing members since new city centre parking charges were introduced in July.

https://www.hampshirechronicle.co.uk/news/23845441.winchester-community-...

the Christmas repertoire is in rehearsal now:

Ding Dong! charges are high

We locals find them stinging

Ding Dong! we all run a car

But can’t afford the parking

Winchester parking: New volunteer permit and one-hour evening charge

https://www.hampshirechronicle.co.uk/news/23843465.winchester-parking-ne...

This sounds like a last-minute compromise so how's it going to work  - here's the form you have to complete:

1. Did you pick up a mic stand or a chair and move it at least 2metres?

You did? Congratulations, here's a year's free parking!

No ban

Speaking through a Polish interpreter, Pociecha, of George Pope Close, Norwich, pleaded guilty to being drunk in charge of a child and being in charge of a vehicle with an alcohol level above the limit.

https://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/news/23854338.norwich-woman-arrested-dru...

Even a week or a fortnight ban would have been a useful deterent.

At their return, up the high strand,
Begin, and cease, and then again begin,

Villagers in Wingham, near Canterbury, claim plans for 70 homes will further make Kent ‘car park of England’

Back to Wingham we go : interesting how, fleetingly, the lights come on sometimes with people. Now you've noticed, you could hold a meeting at the village hall, but someone's parked their SUV in the porch. (Story 3 weeks back)

Villagers have lashed out at “mad” plans for 70 new homes – amid fears Kent is becoming “the car park of England.”

“This is another move towards the garden of England becoming the car park of England and the green spaces of Kent being lost forever.”

Rosemary Bunn writes: “The traffic situation is already dire and stationary at peak times – an extra 70-plus dwellings will make the roads impossible through the village.

"We need fields for crops to grow or how else are we meant to eat?”

Bolton: Supercars keep crashing on same stretch of road

Instead of dealing with the real issue*, the answer must be to put a protective barrier in so the cars can't hit the pedestrians....

*Now what could be the real issue? Is it that supercars are inherently unstable? Is there a bump in the road that causes cars traveling at the speed limit to suddenly crash? Is there a cross wind that causes cars to flip? Your guess is as good as mine!

'Heart-breaking' end of lifeline rural bus service serving three Welsh counties

It's the commenters I felt sorry for (e.g. CHRISWE) trying his best mental gymnastics to say this is all Mark Drakefords fault and that he wants only to get people out of their cars and on to, er, public transport.  It seems EU money helped to  support this service, so we're back to the gift that keeps on giving to ordinary people.

Still, I expect the India deal will be along any minute now and save the day, a bit like the Bwcabus.

"In response to the motion, a Welsh Government spokeswoman said: "Despite promises that Wales would not be a penny worse off after Brexit, the UK Government has failed to replace funding for rural transport schemes previously supported by EU. Unfortunately, we are therefore unable to continue supporting the Bwcabus service."

This isn't quite a drivers and their problems, apart from the man has made it one by saying that the council is forcing him to waste fuel.

South West drivers hit with fines even when ticket meter is broke

"One case for getting a PCN which will no doubt rankle many a car park user is ...that you will be charged even if its machines are not working properly. A faulty machine does not automatically grant free parking. There is clear signage to this effect..."

"One policy that will probably anger many motorists is one that says that it's up to you to have enough cash or the app or a credit card or smartphone that works as "appeals submitted on this basis will not be granted under any circumstances".

Drivers and their problems - if you've managed to convinced yourself that parking is free if the meter isn't working, then Alliance have a suprise in store for you.

Driver desperation in Watchet:

"Estimates for re-routing the coast road, which according to the authorities could be closed for years, have varied from £30 million to £60 million."

“Apart from a few weekends and bank holidays, the town is incredibly quiet.

“Some days Swain Street is like a pedestrian road."

Always remarkable how these sums a bandied about so freely, but £2m on a cycleway seems like an impossibility.
