Wasn't sure if Chaves had played his cards yesterday & was certain that 1-10 would be breakaway riders... shows how wrong you can think a stage.
What happened to Chad Haga?
And Hugh Carthy! Looks like some times failed to be recorded - there seemed to be issues with the live standings all afternoon. Only 133 finishers listed so far. I'm sure they all finished unless there is a huge TT grupetto still on course!
I can't find Haga listed as a DNS or DNF. Very odd. Been busy so missed most of it.
I risked no Dennis but got the next six. Kamna let me down and Haga not showing.
How did Carthy do btw?
Carthy did alright, but can't remember where he placed exactly. Catalunya website hasn't upated anything yet and I'm not going off PCS until they're verified.
Got Haga in instead of Sanchez, He made the money easier for tomorrow. A few pts would be nice...obviously not in the mix though...
My mistake was Carthy instead of Porte - I just wasn't sure where Porte stands in the pecking order for Ineos and whether he might take it easy today...... Ah well
Porte never feels like a safe pick though. I made the rookie mistake of starting with two Ineos riders in Yates and Porte...leaving no room for Dennis. I could have corrected it but would have taken an in and back out pair of transfers. I'll count myself lucky that both Porte and Yates delivered good pts today. I won't make that mistake again.
should have kept quiet, i thought that was a masterstroke! I considered not putting in Dennis to save changes, would not have thought Yates would do so well however...
I saw earlier on Carthy finished 5th or sixth but I may have imagined that.
sorry 25th or 6th
Some years Catalunya has a nice pattern where you can progressively remove 1-2 riders a day in climbing skill order. This is not one of those years. After a shocker yesterday, and an incongruous TT today, I'm looking forward to tomorrow.
Real problems for Movistar these days. What was that all about today?...blew the race apart on the climb and then just let four riders roll off the front later on. Lost the plot.
I remember them doing it up the Tourmalet at the Tour a couple of years ago with similar results. It was baffling - I can only think that Valverde said he fancied it and they wanted anybody resembling a sprinter distanced! That bit worked but the rest quite clearly didn't!
So here we go, Break or Sprint which Sagan wins. Star studded field. Is this the first time the Yates twins have raced against each other?
And there goes Sagan out of the back..... oh well, back to the drawing board!
Oooh. Not watching. I didn't fancy him over these mountains so left him out of my Purist team....getting over the Poggio and getting over these mountains aren't the same thing. I did include him in my standard though as safety in numbers. Did everybody else get him in standard?
In both mine, couldn't leave him out today & got seduced into putting him into purist by MSM result. That's why you win the purists!
In today but went all climbers on the purist.
Went full climber in the purist plus LLS. Went TT and climbers in standard with Smith Sagan and Venturini for variety.
Okay, it's open now. Still some rosters to come in so there will be changes to make. I'll keep my eye on things.
Yes, there is always a new race round the corner. Same as you, I never got into the rhythm of T-A - it's funny how some races go like that. Catalunya will hopefully let me recover from the inevitable disaster that is Milan-San Remo, a race I never call right....
A bit different this year for Milan-San Remo. Some one day races are going to be quite a bit of MVDP vs Ala vs WVA....it'll be all about the diffs for picks....more like fantasy football in that respect. Having said that there's been keen winds predicted for M-S so we might be in a lottery again.
I'll still mess it up!
