Garmin have today announced that it has extended its title sponsorship of the ProTour cycling team Team Garmin-Slipstream for an additional three years.
Jon Cassat, Garmin’s vice president of communications, said: “The success of the team spans the globe and surpassed our expectations for the first year and a half of our title sponsorship, bringing Garmin’s reputation for quality, commitment, performance and productivity into countless households in Europe, North America, Asia and Australia.”
Owned and managed by Slipstream Sports, Team Garmin-Slipstream is dedicated to promoting ethical sporting and developing the next generation of cycling champions.
Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales, added: “Since signing with Slipstream prior to the 2008 Tour de France, Garmin has seen an outpouring of support from cyclists and sports fans across the globe, along the roads of major tours and in the stores of our retail partners,” added
A true team effort finished off the Jayco Herald Sun Tour for Team Garmin-Slipstream at the weekend, delivering race leader Bradley Wiggins to the final finish line for the overall win. Tom Peterson also clinched the final king of the mountains jersey for the race, while the team as a whole won the team classification.
Team Garmin finished 11th in the official 2009 UCI World Calendar final teams standings with 632 points, while the US team’s top ranked rider was Tyler Farrar who finished 18th with 212 points.
