A police officer in Suffolk is to appear in court to be charged with dangerous driving and assaulting a cyclist in connection with an incident that took place in Ipswich in February.
The charges follow an investigation by Suffolk Constabulary after a complaint was received from the 25-year-old male cyclist relating to an incident on the afternoon of Friday 14 February on Norwich Road, reports the Ipswich Star.
The bike rider who said that he had been knocked from his bike by a motorist, followed by a physical altercation, according to the newspaper.
It adds that no date or location for the magistrates’ court appearance of the police constable, who works at the force’s headquarters in Martlesham, has been set yet.
Police say that the 53-year-old officer, whose name has not been disclosed, was off-duty at the time of the incident and has not been suspended from his duties.
