Witness appeal after cyclist assaults man who was on bike ride with daughter

Victim was verbally abused then punched in face on Ridgeway Trail last Monday, say Dorset Police

Police in Dorset have launched a witness appeal after a man who was cycling with his 9-year-old daughter was punched in the face by another bike rider in Weymouth last Monday 4 August.

The incident occurred on a cycle path on the Ridgeway Trail at around 12.30pm and left the 44-year-old man from Weymouth with cuts to the inside of his mouth, marks on his face and an injured thumb.

Police say that the assailant, described as white, in his late forties, around 6 feet tall and dressed in a cream-coloured t-shirt, verbally abused the victim prior to assaulting him.

He then got back on his bike and rode off towards the Littlemoor roundabout.

Police Constable Daniel Kitton from Weymouth police said: “This incident left the victim very shocked.

“As it took place in broad daylight there may have been people around who saw what happened.

“I am appealing for anyone who saw the incident or who saw a man cycling near the brow of the Ridgeway, around 12.30pm on Monday 4 August 2014, to come forward.”

Anyone who saw the incident or has information about it is requested to contact Dorset Police on 101 quoting incident number 4:171, or the charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.

Exactly Fifth Gear - something happened which caused one cycle user to assault another cycle user, and ride away. We have a half-baked story which appeals for witnesses.

Now there may be reasons that the Police are not providing more information but it does no good to actually assume that the person who rode away carries all responsibility for the event taking place, or otherwise.

It would be interesting to know exactly why the attack occurred. There must have been a reason however unjustified.

He hit the man with his daughter, blimey!

Which man had the daughter - the attacker or the man who was attacked? Not clear.

Maybe it's my sense of humour!

I thought "hit the man with his daughter", bit vicious picking up a young lass and and hitting her against someone. What did she do to deserve such abuse?

Still, not very nice either way.

Come on, everyone. Help catch this guy who, presumably holding down some sh!tty job or gainfully unemployed, can get a suspended sentence which would ruin the life of a middle class professional, but which will have absolute no bearing on the scrote's life whatsoever.

So the attacker is a cyclist and the victim is a man? Has the motoring media bought road.cc?

I note that the road.cc report takes an almost uncharacteristically neutral stance on this. Perhaps it's because no murderous, rampaging motorists were involved?

I see no difference to other witness appeal articles on here. Maybe it's just in your head?
