Win a Foffa bike with Cycle to Work Day pledge

Win one of three Foffa bikes, courtesy of UK tax-free bike to work initiative, Cyclescheme, by pledging your commitment to participate in this year's Cycle to Work Day.

Going in to its second year, and following on from a successful first year which saw participating riders cover a collective 256,932 miles on their way to work, Cyclescheme are predicting an even bigger year this September 4. 

Tens of thousands of riders are expected to take part, and by pledging to be one of them you could win yourself a brand new bike. All you've got to do is go to the Cycle to Work Day website and pledge to cycle to work on September 4.

Many of the cyclists taking part in the event will be newbies, and may be put off by the tangle of mechanics that is a bicycle or the possibility of fatal issues like a puncture, or a chain slipping off.  

Cyclescheme appear to have thought of this, and so, have brought in the help of over 500 independent bike shops around the country that have agreed to run bike health checks for free, to put worried minds at ease.

These are a little like an MOT for your car, except they’re free and for your bike. A qualified professional bicycle mechanic will give your bike a thorough look over, pointing out and giving advice about any components that may cause or be causing issues with an easy-to-understand traffic light system.

Your nearest participating bike shop can be found by entering your postcode on the Cycle to Work Day website.

Cyclescheme’s event has come at what Wiggle suggest is the perfect time to engage with as many cyclists as possible.

We reported earlier in the week that the online cycling retail company estimate that this week (beginning Monday August 25) will see more commuters cycling to work than any other week of the year.

Wiggle’s prediction is based on analysis of sales data from the past four years, which it says ramp up to this week being the busiest cycling week of the year.

The Met Office predict that the unsettled weather we’ve been experiweeksg over the last couple of weeks will ease up slightly, but continue into the start of September.
