Mountain Mayhem has long been the big fixture on many mountain biker's calendars. This year it's on the 19 – 20 June and roadies get to join in the fun too with the addition of The Original Source Mountain Mayhem Sportive – Sponsored by Verenti. Phew! It's a long name and it's not over yet cos we haven't got to… in association with road.cc.
And the first thing you can do in association with road.cc at this year's Original Source Mountain Mayhem Sportive is... book your place! Unlike the mountain bike part of the festival entry to the sportive is online only and exclusively via road.cc. Entries for this year's sportive which takes place on Sunday 20 June are open, and the idea is to encourage people to come along and make a weekend of it. Mountain Mayhem itself has already become more than simply a mountain bike event – it's a festival of cycling and there's plenty to do all weekend long for those who aren't taking part in the mountain bike event.
There's a whole festival area with stands from bike and kit manufacturers, places to eat, drink, dance and even get a pre or post ride massage. You can demo ride mountain and road bikes – maybe try out one of the new range of Verenti sportive machines. There will also be the latest kit to look at, and plenty of bike-related competitions and contests to have a go at too – many aimed at the road riding fraternity too, more on all of that in the coming weeks. We'll be there too with a stand and we'll have some of the guys from the new Planet X road.cc team with us – they might even ride the sportive with you… stranger things have happened.
Eastnor Castle itself is a really beautiful spot tucked in to the Malvern Hills, if you know your festivals it's also home to the Big Chill and is a great place to hang out and just, er chill – add in bikes and it really doesn't get any better. Sportive riders get their own campsite for the weekend – close enough to the action to feel a part of it, but not enough to be disturbed by the racing on the night before your big ride. Mountain Mayhem is famous for the quality of its facilities the showers and toilets are second to none, you won't be roughing it. Bring the family and make a weekend of it.
Entry fee for the 100km ride is £22 and that buys you:
- Entry to the ride with a choice of 100Km or 50Km routes through the beautiful Herefordshire countryside and the Malvern hills – the rides will be testing but they aren't going to introduce you to a world of pain that has you questioning the very meaning of your existence… this is going to be fun.
- Goody bag worth £21
- Access to the sportive campsite and all of the festival facilites
- Properly marshalled and signposted routes
- Refreshment stops with free food and drink during the ride
The emphasis at Mountain Mayhem has always been on providing a top quality event at an affordable price that's why we are so pleased to be a part of this year's event. See you there!

maybe bring a bit of that insurance money to the event - we checked out the new verenti bikes today and they're reet tasty. more on that real soon...
Ah, cool, that's only 20 miles from my folks' house, why not...
This'll be my first sportive (was going to start last year, but got hit by a car on a training ride in March and was off the bike for 6 months).
Hopefully the insurance money'll be through by June, or I'll be doing it on a 25 year old Peugeot Premiere (nothing wrong with that, I know, but it's a bit heavy).
Flying back from the Alps that day, maybe next year.
When this is all fully booked please note you can enter my 400km event on the same weekend, starting from near Taunton. Details here
