Wahoo RPM Cadence Sensor now available in the UK

An easy way to measure cadence with Bluetooth and ANT+ connectivity

The Wahoo Fitness RPM Cadence Sensor is now available in the UK, after initially only being available in the US when it was first launched earlier this year. The RPM Cadence Sensor is a wireless cadence sensor that is compatible with any ANT+ or Bluetooth 4.0 device and costs £39.99.

The RPM Cadence Sensor doesn’t require a magnet like a regular cadence sensor. Instead an internal accelerometer is used to calculate cadence. That means it is both easy to install and can be used on any bike. It can even be worn on a shoe so you could swap from one bike to another very easily, or even use it for indoor cycling.

The small sensor runs off a single coin cell battery good for a claimed two years. It’s light, with a claimed weight of just 7g.

It’s compatible with iOS, Android 4.3 or greater, or any device that uses Bluetooth 4.0 or ANT+ connectivity. You can use it with Wahoo’s own free Fitness App or Strava, MapMyRide, Cyclemeter or any other compatible app you might prefer.

“We’ve seen an incredible emergence of devices that connect to Smartphones,” says Chip Hawkins, CEO of Wahoo Fitness. “Adding ANT+ connectivity to our proven RPM Cadence Sensor only serves to make it more flexible and useful for a wider range of cyclists.”

While power meters might be all the rage at the moment, they’re still mightily expensive and many cyclists can benefit a great deal from simply adding cadence alongside heart rate data to their training. Conventional cadence sensors can be really fiddly to set up, requiring precise alignment of a magnet and ensuring it’s close enough to the sensor to function properly. The RPM Cadence Sensor looks to neatly sidestep such issues with appealing simplicity.

The RPM Cadence Sensor is available now and costs £39.99. Check it out at http://uk.wahoofitness.com

Several shops do the same price, I think. I've been using one for a few months and it seems quite reliable.

The Garmin one seems to be ANT+ only, whereas this one does Bluetooth 4.0 as well so is compatible with a lot more smartphones etc.

Garmin do a very similar thing now, in case you don't know, for both speed and cadence. It's a bit cheaper too.

Only one I could find was this and everywhere selling it was at least £10 more than this option.

Any idea if this will work with a Garmin Edge ? I dislike the massive cadence sensor and would love to get rid of it.
