Grab a Garmin-Sharp Cervélo team bike bargain

Garmin-Sharp professional team selling off 2013 and 2014 race bikes on their website

If you fancy getting your hands on an actual team race bike as ridden by a professional, now is a good time to be on the lookout as it's the time of year when some times clear out older race bikes. Doing just that is Garmin-Sharp, the team selling off a load of its 2013 and 2014 Cervélo race bikes including those ridden by Johan Vansummeren and Steele Von Hoff. Well they'll need to as it doesn't look like Cervélo will be partnering with the team in 2015 (they'll be on Cannondale) so they'll have a fair few bikes to flog.

The website only lists nine bikes, apparently the entire inventory isn't being listed but you can drop them a line at the email address at the bottom of the article to find out what else they have available.

One of the interesting bikes that is listed is this Cervélo R5 that was raced by Steel Von Hoff during the 2013 race season so it's not exactly the most current offering, but is described as in "good condition" despite its age. Garmin-Sharp give these secondhand bikes a 10 out of 10 rating, this one gets 7 out of 10 because it shows some cosmetic blemishes. Well, you've got to expect a bit of damage on a bike that has been raced hard.

It'll set you back $4,000 and the bike is built with Dura Ace 7970 Di2 components which apparently has seen some use (as you'd expect of a race bike) but still functions properly.

If you're a bit longer in the legs, then you might be interested in this 58cm R5. It was raced by Vansummeren during the 2013 race season and the frame is described as being in great condition. The fork however does have some paint chipped off. A brand new Shimano Ultegra 6800 groupset has been fitted, which is nice. This bike costs $4500.

You can see all the listed bikes at the website here www.shopslipstreamsports.com. If you're interested in any of these bikes you can drop them a line at sales [at] slipstreamsports.com

Selling off old team bikes like this is more common than you might think, just a while ago we reported that Canyon is flogging off a load of retired team bikes.

I've got about £8 in the piggy bank... a £2 coin and a bit of fluff in my pocket...

What will that get me?

I purchased an unused, new in its carton Cervelo frameset from Slipstream a couple of years ago. The customer service and the price were both excellent.
