The Leamington Observer reports that Warwick council are looking to extend the district’s cycle network. An additional seven miles of cycle paths would see the network around Leamington and Warwick double in size.
Campaigners have welcomed the news but are keen to see routes linking busier areas. Tony Lewenz, from campaign group Cycleways, said:
"We always support the introduction of new cycling infrastructure. We hope the route will help connect people to the places they need to go like residential areas, schools, town centres and areas of employment.
"If part of the scheme also includes access to Warwick town centre, that would be valuable as cycle access is still difficult."
The route may have links to the development of Tachbrook Country Park. Approved last month, the plan is to create a new strip of country park to prevent further urban encroachment into the countryside within which cycle paths have been deemed ‘essential’.
However, Ray Bullen, a supporter of the Save Warwick campaign, has described the heavily sloping area as being ‘a very unsuitable spot’ for a country park.

Yeah who's got time to ride around a park

This strikes me as another leisure route and not actually designed to solve traffic issues?
Interesting.
I live in Warwick and ride to Leamington almost daily. The current paths aren't particularly great, some of them are on the pavement, which is badly surfaced and too slow to make any meaningful progress (great for kids on the school run though).
It'll be interesting to see how this progresses.
Fortunately, it's actually pretty good round here to ride. Much worse in most towns i've ridden in.
