Evans Cycles has unveiled details of its new FWE clothing range which features a £29.99 short sleeve jersey and £34.99 bib shorts, available for both men and women and in a choice of colours.
FWE is a nod to founder F.W. Evans’ first London bicycle shop in 1921. The retailer has been using the FWE tag for some time on its own tools and accessories for a while, and now it features on clothing too. Evans Cycles has been developing the new clothing, which focuses on high quality at affordable prices, for some time, with testing on the roads around the company’s West Sussex headquarters.
“When approaching this project, I was really excited to take the core FWE brand values and create a collection that we could truly believe in,” says Head Designer William Hurd. “I am thrilled to reveal a range of honest, understated, quality products that set the standard for many futures ranges.”
So what do we have then? There’s the FWE LTR Short Sleeve Jersey, ‘LTR’ standing for lunchtime ride, a regular outing at Evans, and FWE BK bib shorts, ‘BK’ standing for Barry Know’s Best, a hugely popular mountain bike trail in the Surrey Hills.
The FWE LTR Short Sleeve Jersey (£29.99) is constructed from a polyester and recycled polypropylene fabric that is light and and quick drying. The clothing is designed for people who might be new to cycling so the fit it’s a bit more relaxed than regular race fit clothing, Evans describe the sizing and cut as a classic/regular fit.
There are overlock seams, a silicone waistband and and a full-length zip with an underflap. Around the back are three pockets with a smaller zipped pocket, big enough to squeeze a smartphone in. There’s some reflective material on the rear pockets, sleeve, middle pocket and back of the neck. The women’s jersey shares the same materials and features but is sized and cut accordingly. The men’s jersey is available in blue or black, the women’s in black/green or red.
Matching the jersey are these FWE BK Bib Shorts (£34.99). They have a multi-panel design using a polyamide/elastane fabric across the lower shorts and a polyester mesh used for the bib straps. Flatlock seams feature throughout and there’s reflective trim on the thigh and laser cut wide elasticated leg openings. Inside the shorts is a gender specific Coolmax Chamois, with an antibacterial treatment, with deeper padding where it’s needed most.
Evans Cycles visited the road.cc office the other day to show us the new clothing, and it all looks really good. There's some smart design on show with some features you don't often see on cycle clothing at this sort of price. They've steered clear of big loud logos too, going instead with a very understated appearance. They left us a few items to test so watch out for some reviews soon.

AHHHHH. A light bulb moment!
I've just seen the logo in the last photo on the bib shorts and realised that my "Five" drink bottle is actually an "FWE" drink bottle!!!
Only took me a couple of years to decipher.
So they've got this as the budget range and HOY Vulpine as "mid market" then?
If it's anything like their multi-tool then I'm sure they'll disintegrate fairly quickly.
yup, their tools are sourced from the same factory as "ice tools" and any mechanic worth their salt will tell you how feeble those are...
just as I left Evans they started stocking the workshops with their own brand tools as perhaps they felt Park was too expensive, glad I left...
My preferences are the opposite of the team kit look, so those appeal to me. I've never understood why anyone not being paid to do so, would want to wear a company logo, and that's true whether it's cycling kit or (and much worse) rip off football shirts. I'll take a look in store sometime as they're local.
I'ld say it looks like a good start. Like the styling.
Wiggle has done very well with their DHB brand, so smart move for Evans to do something simular
That is a very nice 'Sky' blue jersey. I hope people don't confuse it for another jersey and send you negative vibes with their mind powers.
Funny, I didn't think that before you mentioned it, and you know what, I still don't think people will be confusing the two
Jerseys have some nice details at a nice price - have ordered one.
Couldn't fault the presentation, quality or fit, except … the collar was bloody huge - about a 20 inch neck - when it should have been about a 17 inch. Had to go back which is a real shame.
Ahhh - I might try one then, can never seem to get a wide enough neck without looking like a spandex gorilla.
I ordered an XXL - I laid it over my dhb Active Panelled Short Sleeve Jersey and they were identical in size, except the collar sizing, and which doesn't stand up as much as the dhb.
