Andre Greipel’s Tour de France stage 5 winning sprint revealed on Strava

German sprinter uploads winning ride to Strava, revealing he hit 70km/h in the dash for the line

Andre Greipel won his second stage of the 2015 Tour de France in a dramatic and exciting sprint finish on stage 5 yesterday, and he has shared his ride on Strava, revealing he hit 70km/h in the dash for the line, into a headwind, and beating Peter Sagan and Mark Cavendish.

The average speed for the final kilometre of the stage was 55.2km/h, so they weren’t exactly hanging about. The average for the whole 196km stage was 39.7km/h, which meant they ticked off this stage in 4hrs 56mins.

While Andre Greipel’s sprint finish was swift, he actually maxed out at 94.3km/h earlier in the stage, on one of the steeper descents earlier in the stage. At 1,171m there wasn’t a great deal of climbing to trouble the sprinters but with a few noticeable rises towards the end to test legs.

Andre Greipel’s Strava activity also reveals some of the other Tour racers regularly uploading their ride data to the website. These include Brit Alex Dowsett and world champion Michal Kwiatkowski, and Strava hero Laurens ten Dam.

But no power or HR data so it doesn't really tell us much we didn't know already.

Yes agree it is a shame there's no power or heart rate data so we could see more accurately just how hard he was racing
