Thames Valley Police logoOxford cyclist pelted with stones from white van in city centre - and forced to run away
An Oxford cyclist was chased through the city centre by a white van man who threw stones at him until he ran away on foot.
The 27-year old cyclist was near the junction joining Longwall Street and High Street on August 1 at 12.15pm when the Oxford Rentals branded van came alongside him and an occupant began to throw stones at him.
When the cyclist tried to take pictures of the driver and passenger with his phone, the driver got out to attempt to take away the phone.

Thames Valley Police said that the van driver, who was described as in his thirties with dark hair, then chased the victim, who escaped by running towards Magdalen Bridge.
The cyclist was unhurt in the incident.
PC Sarah Watts, said: “This assault happened in the middle of the day in the centre of Oxford, and it’s likely that a number of people will have seen this dangerous and cowardly attack.”
Any witnesses can call 101 to report the incident.

I object to the term, "White van man," to describe anyone driving a white van as some sort of aggressive subset of humanity. I would much prefer, "Vicious thug driving a rental van," as a more appropriate description. The reason? I am also a white van driver who would never contemplate throwing anything at a cyclist, which I also am.
I agree. This is obviously White Hire Van Man. A completely new subset.
Imagine if it had been an ISIS jeep stoning women for dressing in a revealing manner. Oxford city centre would be awash with the military, drones, special forces …
I doubt it. I think politicians would be dancing around the issue in a way so as not to increase social tensions. This has nothing to do with the event in hand.

Surely if it was a rental van, the firm it was rented from can provide details of who was hiring one at the time? Shouldn't be that hard to match the possible drivers to the description

It's not only astonishing that he used rocks as if in middle ages, but where the heck can you find rocks in center of OXford?
