Tomorrow's Dail Mail headline:
"Cycling more dangerous than Formula 1"
Not suprising condidering McLaren were (maybe still are) heavily involved in the design, aerodynamics and materials science of the top S-Works bikes.
When I worked there in 2012-13, they had two of them on display on the lower concourse along with all of their famous cars and team trophies. Mark Cavendish even came in to receive (gratis) his nice black MP4-12c which I presume was a part of his performance package with Specialised or his team.
IIRC, I think Jenson qualified for Kona a couple of years ago?
Pretty much all the current F1 drivers are keen cyclists as are a lot of motoring journalists. It's interesting when you think of the whole car vs bike thing we seem to have over here.
I don't think Button has raced an ironman yet?
I think he probably could qualify for kona but you have to win a slot by completing a full distance IM race.
Was it the half IM championship instead maybe?
Kona is next weekend. I think it clashes with his day job.
You're probably right, must have been a 70.3.
Though I don't think he raced the world champs that he qualified for. Looks like he's staying in F1 for another year, so won't get to see how quick he could be.
Good to see some proper petrol heads showing the knuckle draggers the way forward.
Its surprising how many racing drivers are into road cycling and MTB for fitness training, pleasure and even serious competition
I met Jenson Button whilst working at the Specialized Concept Store in Covent Garden where we spent a good hour talking about mountain bike suspension, carbon fibre and bike tech - he was genuinely interested in the tech side and looking at the S-Works Epic mountain bike
I've had dealings with his Jenson's Ichiban Tri team mates in the past, this bike below is Aston Martin's Works Driver Chris Buncombe's Venge that I was asked to rebuild with a new frame FOC from Specialized after he'd been involved in a prang
