Justice (Lonpicman, Wikimedia Commons)Driver accused of brake-checking Somerset cyclist to stand trial
A motorist who allegedly brake-checked a cyclist, causing the rider injuries when he crashed into the rear windscreen of the car, will stand trial at Taunton Crown Court next month on a charge of dangerous driving.
Gerald William Hobbs, of Tatworth, near Chard, pleaded not guilty to the charge at a hearing of Somerset Magistrates in Taunton last week, reports the Western Gazette.
The prosecution claim that he was frustrated after the cyclist, who has not been named, overtook his Volkswagen Golf on a stretch of roadworks on the A30 last August.
He passed the rider before breaking hard, causing him to hit the rear windscreen and sustain injuries including cuts and bruises on his hands and arms, as well as his knees.
Hobbs has been released on unconditional bail pending a preliminary hearing in Taunton on 25 January.
