Police appeal after cyclist killed in Eastbourne

Fatal crash happened on afternoon of Tuesday 29 December

Police in Sussex have issued a witness appeal after a cyclist was killed following a collision involving a car in Eastbourne on Tuesday afternoon.

The victim, a 66-year-old local man, died at the scene of the incident which happened on Victoria Drive at around 2.55pm on 29 December.

The vehicle involved was a black BMW 525 D Sport and the driver, a 47-year-old Eastbourne man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving and has been bailed until 23 March.

Sergeant Peter Verney of the Surrey and Sussex road policing unit said: "We are very keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this collision and in particular anyone who may have seen the cyclist in the area in the time leading up to it.

"He was quite distinctive, being an older gentlemen, wearing a cloth cap and with a blue Cobalt mountain bike with a basket on the front.
