Tinkoff half-and-half jersey pays tribute to Diego Maradona

Tinkoff have unleashed another quirky training kit on an unsuspecting world. One half is Tinkoff yellow; the other half is a number 10 Napoli football shirt bearing lo scudetto – the Italian shield worn by the reigning Serie A champions. This special edition hybrid is intended to pay tribute to Diego Maradona.

Maradona led Napoli to the Serie A title in 1986/87 and 1989/90, still the only two times they have won it. Children were named after him and graffiti in his honour can still be found in the southern Italian city.

Italian rider, Manuele Boaro, tweeted a picture of the kit.

Tinkoff have form in this area. In December, the team unveiled a new training kit called La Datcha and that had followed a camouflage design the year before.

Perhaps this particular jersey takes inspiration from legendary Arsenal fan Baso, who for decades has taken home and away kits to his tailor ahead of the start of each football season to have a bespoke half-and-half version knocked up.

His singular attire came to the attention of the people behind the Full-Kit Wankers Twitter feed, who promptly named him “King of the Full-Kit Wankers.”

Baso didn’t mind ... and on the final day of the 2013/14 season poked a bit of fun back with a couple of suitably regal additions to his standard match day attire.
