Bargains galore as Carlisle bike shop holds 3-day flood salvage sale

A Carlisle bike shop whose premises were flooded in the recent storms that battered Cumbria and much of northern England is holding a special three-day sale this week, starting tomorrow, with a wide variety of bikes, frames and clothing on sale at half their usual price or less.

Scotby Cycles told road.cc that it’s the second time they have been flooded in their current premises, which cover four floors on the Cumbrian city’s Church Street.

With most of their sales now having migrated online – its internet operation is run from the upper floors – the business says that this time round it has continued trading with minimal disruption.

But with refurbishment of the ground floor needed as a result of water damage, it says “the real excitement after the flood is for local customers downstairs in the retail showroom,” with a three-day flood salvage sale taking place from 18-20 February from 9am-5pm each day.

“Much of the stock didn't even get wet but it may have been slightly shop soiled in one way or another,” the company says.

“All Castelli and Endura clothing is half price or less! Just about every Cannondale, Trek and Specialized bike is half price or less.

“Everything normally found in a bike shop showroom is in this Salvage Sale. £35 Knog lights for £3, £100 Cannondale helmets from £12. There's a table full of pedals at half price or less. Hundreds if not thousands of tubes all for £1.50 each. £30 tyres for as little as £6. The whole lot must be cleared in just three days,” the shop adds.

The gallery above has examples of some of the goodies on offer, including a Cipollini frame at well under half price, so if you’re local, it looks well worth a visit – and even if you live farther afield, a trip to Cumbria is an option, with the area keen to rebuild its tourist economy following the recent devastation.

While the floodwaters have long receded, there was another setback for the business last weekend when thieves broke into its premises.

Operations manager Simon Stair told road.cc: "Thankfully our alarm went off instantly and we had a fast police response."

He added that the burglars had broken in through a roof above the staff room on the night of 14th February, but no items were taken.
