Car passenger tries to push cyclist off bike

A cyclist from Cambuslang, near Glasgow, has described an attack by a passenger in a passing car as being “like attempted murder.” Andy Dixon was pushed three times while cycling to work and police are asking anyone with information to get in touch by phoning 101.

The Daily Record reports that Dixon was cycling along Cairns Road on Monday, March 28 at 6.45am when the passenger of what he thinks may have been a white Peugeot 208 leaned out of the window and pushed him.

“I noticed the car was slowing down and I wasn’t quite sure what was happening. I felt two hands grab my arm. He pushed me three times, three really good concerted shoves out of the passenger side of the vehicle. At that point I shouted and they sped off.”

Dixon, who cycle commutes daily clocking up 6,000 miles a year, said that the driving he ordinarily encounters is generally of a high standard. “This is a whole other level of danger. My wife could have been putting me in the ground today and that’s the bottom line.”

There have occasionally been fads for car passengers filming themselves pushing cyclists off their bikes and Dixon worries that he may have been the victim of something similar.

“They could have taken a father away from his children. This wasn’t a joke. This was putting another road user in incredible danger.

“It’s not too extreme to say it’s like attempted murder. What the hell were they playing at? I would have to say to these people if they think they can get away with it, they should know they could kill someone next time.

“It’s not big, it’s not clever, it’s not funny.”
