Tributes have been paid to the vice president of a Gloucestershire cycling club who died yesterday at the age of 84 after sustaining a cardiac arrest as he rode home after a club ride.
Bill Adams, vice president of Stonehouse Wheelers, fell from his bike after the heart attack yesterday afternoon close to his home in Ebley, reports Stroud Life.
He had been on a club ride to raise funds for a local school.
His friend and clubmate Peter Kwan, who was riding with him, told the website: “We met at Nympsfield and cycled to Wotton-under-Edge and we stopped for a cream tea.
"It was a fundraising event for a Bluecoats School so there were loads of children jumping up and down among the old cyclists, which was lovely.
"I discussed with Bill his plans to organise a cream tea in the summer. It had been a splendid day with perfect weather – I last saw him at Ryeford.
"I can't think of a better way for him to go – after a perfect ride."
Mr Adams had been due to give an address at the funeral today of club president Eric Lewis, who died a fortnight ago, also aged in his eighties.
No other vehicle was involved, but police have called for witnesses to contact them on 101 incident 378 of May 8.

Mine too. I was 17 and it was the 1980s. I'm not sure if I ever rode with Bill but I fondly remember those club rides and places. As others have said, we've all got to go somehow, and this is a good-how. RIP.
My first cycling club was Stonehouse Wheelers ... when I was 14 in 1977. Still cycling now, so thankyou Bill, Eric and others for starting me and many others on a life-long journey. I still live in Stroud - a fantastic place to remain. RIP
That's how I want to go.

Out riding yesterday I saw an old boy on a racing TRIKE wearing old team kit. Still easily tapping out a very decent pace, quite inspirational considering how bloody hot it was
