Cervelo Test Team get Giro invite

New team invited to Milan San Remo and Tirreno-Adriatico too

It's official Cervelo will be racing at this year's Giro d'Italia as confidently predicted by team officials at their recent launch.

The team received an official invitation to the Giro d’Italia from the organizer RCS Sports. At the start of this year’s edition, there will be fourteen ProTour Teams, as well six wildcard entries. The Giro kicks off on May 9 in Lido di Venenzia and concludes May 31 in Rome.

“We are very proud to receive this invitation,“ said Thomas Campana, Managing Director, Cervélo TestTeam. “As you know, the Giro is one of the three most important competition stage races in the cycling sports calendar. We will be there for sure at the start with a powerful team and we will acquit ourselves well in this important race after the spring classics.“

In addition to the Giro, Cervélo TestTeam will take also part this spring in the Tirreno - Adriatico and Milan - San Remo races which are also organized by RCS Sports.

In honour of the 100th Anniversary of the Giro d’Italia, Cervélo SA, which is a sponsor of the Giro has created a special commemorative paint design for their RS model.

Cervelo officials are also confident that the team will receive a wildcard for this year's Tour and it seems unthinkable that Carlos Sastre, the defending champion, would not be given the chance to defend his title - a feat no yellow jersey winner has managed since 2005.
