Giro d'Italia team bus heads to stage start ... and leaves a rider behind

Team Sunweb's Simon Geschke took to Twitter to ask if anyone could give him a lift...

Team Sunweb's bus driver at the Giro d'Italia can expect a bit of leg-pulling after setting off to the start of today's Stage 12 of the race and leaving a rider behind.

German rider Simon Geschke took to Twitter to ask for a lift to Forli ahead of the stage to Reggio Emilia.

Luckily, the bus driver turned around to collect Geschke, meaning that race leader Tom Dumoulin will have seven support riders on today's stage rather than six, the team having lost Wilco Kelderman when he broke a finger after colliding with a police motorbike on Sunday.

CyclingHubTV wondered whether the Team Sunweb bus driver may have taken a tweet sent by Geschke following yesterday's stage a little too literally.

Simon joined road.cc as news editor in 2009 and is now the site’s community editor, acting as a link between the team producing the content and our readers. A law and languages graduate, published translator and former retail analyst, he has reported on issues as diverse as cycling-related court cases, anti-doping investigations, the latest developments in the bike industry and the sport’s biggest races. Now back in London full-time after 15 years living in Oxford and Cambridge, he loves cycling along the Thames but misses having his former riding buddy, Elodie the miniature schnauzer, in the basket in front of him.
