Fidget spinners, you may have noticed, are 2017’s Big Thing. And now, our friends at Chain Reaction Cycles have produced a video showing how you can make your own from spare bike parts you may have lying around.
All you need is a length of chain, a bearing and a couple of zip ties then just follow the instructions in the ‘How To … ‘ video below.
Dating back to the 1990s, the stress-relieving toys have exploded in popularity in the past couple of months – to the dismay of many parents and teachers, with some schools banning them during lessons.
And while they are claimed to be ideal for helping keep people with conditions ADHD focused, expert opinion is split as to whether that is, in fact, true.
Chain Reaction Cycles’ version has on the whole received a positive response on its Facebook page, with many people posting photos of ones the have made themselves.
As always, on social media as in real life, you can’t please all the people all the time, with one commenter saying: “Or get a life, stop being a pathetic idiotic child. Get out on yer bike instead.”

I was very neatly run off the road earlier this week by a motorist at the lights. Lights went green, she started up and very smoothly merged across where I had been -- I swerved in against the kerb -- she went over into the turning lane before glancing up and swerving back to her original direction. Eyes firmly on her lap, steering with both knees pressed against the wheel, both hands fiddling with a fidget spinner in her lap.
Sales of spare Campy link pins about to go through the roof
Looks a good deal less stressful than taking my son to Hamley's to get one, as I made the mistake of doing at the weekend. By the end of the ordeal I think I needed one of the things to cope with the stress.
I've made a few dozen of these recently, from worn 11-speed chain (not exactly in short supply) and key ring split rings.

I've been making fidget toys out of key ring split rings and worn chain for a couple of weeks:

I'm guessing that this might not be the most popular article on this site, but here's a better instruction video:
