Cycle to Work Day returns on 15th August, with vouchers offered from top bike brands to celebrate

Organised by Cyclescheme, Cycle To Work Day aims to get more people free from their cars and public transport and on to their bikes... a healthier, happier and often quicker way to get to work!

Cycle to Work Day returns on Wednesday 15th August, with the national health and well being event aiming to increase awareness of cycle commuting and appeal to both experienced and beginner cyclists alike.

Over 2 million collective miles have been ridden by commuters on Cycle to Work Day since it began in 2012, and both employers and employees are being encouraged to spread the word to their colleagues who might be apprehensive about cycle commuting... accessibility, affordability and fun are the big reasons of course, and with any luck those who get on their bikes for the first time on the day can stick to their healthier habit. 

Cyclescheme, who are behind Cycle to Work Day, have also partnered with Cannondale and Specialized for this year's event, offering a £30 reward voucher to anyone who buys a bike priced at £500 or more until the 31st August; you can spend the voucher in the store where you purchased your new steed.

Speaking as a teacher, I can confidently state that I will not be cycling in to work on the 15th August. Perhaps not doing it when the country is on summer holiday might encourage people in education also to take part. 

Will be cycling in to work on the 16th, however, as that is A level results day.

A fair point well made, we'll pass it on to the folks at Cyclescheme... although maybe a super long teacher's Audax departing on the 15th is in order!

I believe they moved it after last year's rather inclement weather in England & Wales, much better in August in my mind but with 4 nations having different summer holidays you can't get everyone.

Except holidays in England, Wales and NI all finish at the start of September and Scotland on 20th August so they have, in fact, hit holiday time for education workers in all four countries. 

Not a big deal as I cycle to work anyway just limits my ability to use it to try and encourage my colleagues.

You could always pledge your miles for the 16th instead - I don't think C2WD will be checking that you handed in your home-work-home on time. 1
