1. Calder Clarion ride Coast 2 Coast in a day to buy adapted bike for 11-year-old girl with cerebral palsy 

A girl with cerebral palsy who developed a love of cycling has been presented with a specially adapted bike by members of Calder Clarion Cycling Club who raised the money to buy it through a sponsored ride on the Coast 2 Coast route from Whitehaven to Sunderland.

2. Protest organised against lack of police action over spate of bike muggings in Manchester

From our Thursday live blog, a large number of Manchester cyclists turned out to protest against what they perceive to have been a lack of action following violent attacks on cyclists around the Fallowfield route, in which victims were mugged of their bikes. The organiser Helen Pidd told BBC News that three members of her Team Glow cycling club were mugged recently, and the victims felt "powerless" and "felt the complaints weren't taken seriously".

6. Cyclist killed in London hit and run had called for protected bike lanes hours before his death

A cyclist who was killed last week in a hit and run incident involving a lorry in south east London had said hours before his death that protected cycle lanes were needed to make roads safer for people on bikes. Brian Barnett, aged 60, died at the scene of the collision, which happened at 4.35am on the morning of Monday 8 October on a dual carriageway in Erith.

7. Alexandre Vinokourov places top 10 in age group at Ironman World Championship

Astana general manager Alexandre Vinokourov secured a top 10 age group finish at the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii last weekend. The 45-year-old placed seventh out of 287 competitors in the men’s 45-49 category with a time of 9 hours 13 minutes and 38 seconds.

8. Bristol City Council denies liability as family of drowned cyclist sues

Bristol City Council has denied liability for the death of a cyclist who drowned in the city’s floating harbour. The family of Sean Philipps are claiming up to £2 million in damages from the local authority in a case currently being heard by the High Court.

9. Transgender track world champion Rachel McKinnon receives criticism and abuse online  

This debate has raged on all week, following transgender cyclist Rachel McKinnon's victory in the women's 35-44 category at the Track Cycling World Championships. McKinnon argues that she's passed the UCI's tests to allow her to compete as a female and gains nothing over her competitors, yet some critics claim she will inevitably have a physical advantage. 10. Planned revisions to Highway Code will highlight danger of close passes and encourage ‘Dutch Reach’ to prevent cyclists from being doored

Transport minister Jesse Norman has confirmed today that the government plans to revise the Highway Code to highlight the danger of motorists overtaking cyclists too closely, and to encourage the ‘Dutch Reach’ technique to prevent cyclists being ‘doored’.
