Bike Doctor smartphone app now available for Android handsets

We know that road.cc users are big fans of cycling-related smartphone apps, but equally we’re aware that whenever we flag up a new one for the Apple iPhone, inevitably the question will be asked of when it will be available for the Android platform.

One app that’s been well received by iPhone users since its launch in June this year is Bike Doctor, a handy tool – well, in virtual terms, at least – for those who suffer a mechanical problem while out and about on their bike.

Now, the app is available for Android users too, in a new version jointly developed by Andreas Kambanis of the London Cyclist blog and Ian Fuller, designer of the Cycle Hire app.

The app is aimed at everyone from complete beginners who have no idea of how to fix a puncture through to bike maintenance pros who may want a handy reference while carrying out more complicated repairs.

Besides the money saving benefits, the fact it’s sitting there on your phone waiting to be fired up when needed means that you effectively have a bike repair manual in your pocket without having to carry one around, and at a fraction of the cost, coming in at a special launch price of just £1.50.

The original iPhone version, which you can find here, and which was developed by Andreas and Ron Forrester, has now been downloaded more than 5,000 times.
