Arrest follows Lancs cyclist's hit-and-run death

A man has been arrested and released on police bail in connection with the death of a cyclist following a hit-and-run incident in Barnoldswick, Lancashire on Monday.

The victim was 36-year old Michael Isherwood, a boat master for a canal cruising business who had been cycling to work through the town when struck by a car which then failed to stop. Despite being airlifted to hospital, Michael succumbed to what were described as “catastrophic” injuries

The 46-year old man from Hyde, Cheshire, who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving on Tuesday morning has been bailed by the Lancashire Constabulary until February, pending their investigation.

Michael's parents, Ken and Ivy Isherwood have paid tribute to him. They said: "Michael was a wonderful son, brother and friend. He was kind, thoughtful and generous with his time, always ready to do anything for anyone. He worked hard and took real pride in his job, which he loved.

"Michael loved life and was enthusiastic about so many things. He loved being outdoors and was a gifted runner and cyclist. He could turn his hand to any DIY job and was enjoying doing up his house. Above all, he loved spending time relaxing with his friends and family. He always had so much energy and it was a joy to be around him.

"Michael was well loved by everyone who knew him and so many people will be devastated by his loss. We are lucky to have so many wonderful memories of him - his life was short, but he lived every minute of it to the full."
