Maxgear signs up Champion System as kit supplier

Hong Kong-based firm made skinsuit worn by Jack Bobridge when he broke Boardman's record...

Cycle clothing manufacturer Champion System, which supplies kit to more than 200 teams and clubs in Britain and Ireland has been announced as one of the sponsors of the North-West England-based Maxgear team, the UK’s top-ranked amateur team in 2010, a year in which it racked up 73 victories.

Last month, the team got 2011 off to a flying start when it pipped Team Sky+HD (now Sky Track Cycling) to the Revolution Championship by a single point at the Manchester Velodrome, and manager Wayne Greenhalgh hopes the new kit will help inspire similar success on the road, describing it as “fantastic.”

One item worthy of particular attention that will be worn by the team on the track and in time trials is Champion System’s Speed Suit, using dimple fabric tested in a wind tunnel and worn earlier this month by the Australian rider Jack Bobridge when he smashed Chris Boardman’s ‘unbreakable’ individual pursuit world record.

Ciaran Dunne, Director of Champion System UK, said: “Maxgear RT is a great team with huge potential and we are delighted to be assisting the riders with a full range of pro-quality kit for the season ahead.”

Champion System also supplies UK-based teams including TORQ Performance, the Virgin Active racing team and amateur clubs such as Manchester Wheelers and Wolverhampton Wheelers. It also sponsors its own eponymous UCI Continental team, registered in the company’s own domicile, Hong Kong, which will be competing in major races in Europe and Asia this year.
