The Bicycle Film Festival (BFF) is coming to Liverpool for the first time.
From April 8 – 10 the festival will be at the Foundation for Art and Creative Technology (FACT) featuring both live and on-screen BMX action, the latter thanks to a screening of the Spike Jonze-produced BMX film about the legend Mat Hoffman.
Over the past decade the BFF’s growth has mirrored the boom in urban cycling around the world. From its roots in New York City, the festival has grown into a multi-faceted event that travels the globe from Milan to Montreal, Seoul to Sydney and beyond. Now in its tenth year the festival visits 30 cities with 300,000 people expected to attend in 2011.
Highlights for the Liverpool BFF this year include Birth of Big Air, the much anticipated documentary on BMX’er Mat Hoffman by Spike Jonze; and Where Are You Go, by veteran BFF filmmaker Benny Zenga, following an epic bicycle journey from Cairo to Capetown.
The Liverpool Festival will include:
• A night of Roller Racing presented by the Great Northern Rollers at The Kazimier (4-5 Wolstenholme Square Liverpool L1 4JJ)
• A special Sunday pub live viewing of the classic Paris-Roubaix race
• BMX demos and tricks demos
• Bicycle scavenger hunt
• Valet bicycle parking provided by Brompton Bicycles
Mike Stubbs FACT CEO/Director said: "FACT is very excited to be hosting the newest edition of the international Bicycle Film Festival, linking Liverpool up with other BFF city hosts around the world, including Amsterdam, New York and Paris.
"Bicycle Film Festival will be an opportunity to draw together the broad range of cyclists in the city - from a growing community of youth cyclists, to cyclist commuters and families who ride together - and promote cycling in the Ropewalks area and beyond."
All screenings for the Liverpool Bicycle Film Festival are held at FACT, 88 Wood Street, L1 4DQ and other events take place at venues and locations close by. For ticket sales and enquiries please contact the FACT box office: 0871 902 5737 or visit fact.co.uk
