Learn the secrets of successful cycle campaigning

There are still some places left on the CTC and Cyclenation cycle campaigning conference in Manchester on 30th May. If you are a cycle campaigner or you want to be one you'll get the chance to learn the secrets of successful cycle campaigning and meet other people who are passionate about creating a cycling culture here in the UK.

The conference is open to anyone who wants to boost cycling in their area, campaigners, road safety officers or anyone who want to make a difference and wants to equip themselves with the tools to help make more cycling a reality.

Two of Britain's most effective cycle campaingers Koy Thomson Chief Executive of the London Cycling Campaign and CTC’s Campaigns Manager Roger Geffen will open the conference both giving short talks.  Then there will be a panel discussion looking at ‘Cycling as a Solution’, featuring:


• Bruce MacDonald from Cycling England and SQW Consulting on the economic benefits of cycling
• Dr Joe Mellor on the health benefits of cycling
• Richard George from Campaign for Better Transport on the environmental benefits of cycling
• Juliet Jardine from CTC’s Cycle Champions programme on cycling for all communities
• Amy Fleuriot from Cyclodelic on cycling style

 
There will also be workshops on: priorities for local cycle campaigning, fundraising, cycling in Local Transport Plans, getting more out of the media, making the business case for cycling, working with the local community; and how to get local businesses on board.
 
CTC Campaigns and Policy Manager Roger Geffen said: “With a general election due next Spring and just as councils are all finalising their local transport plans, this is a crucial time to forge strong links between local and national cycle campaigning.  So I very much look forward to hearing from local campaigners about how we can best help them in the year ahead to get the cycling solution adopted throughout the country.”
 
Cyclenation’s Andre Curtis said: “The conference will reinforce the idea that cycling provides some of the solutions to today’s complex problems, enabling campaigners to make the case coherently. The conference will also have a greater range of workshop sessions than previously, ranging from media training to demonstrations of new cycle journey planners.”
 
The conference will be at Manchester Friends Meeting House on Saturday 30 May from 10am to 5pm. Tickets are £20, to register visit www.ctc.org.uk/conference. There will also be social rides and events from Friday 29 May through to Sunday 31 May.
