Major upgrade for Cyclepedia iPad app (+ video and screenshot gallery)

Lots of new bikes added, new section on team jerseys, plus Sir Paul Smith talks to camera while doing a trackstand

The Cyclepedia iPad app, first unveiled last year and which builds on the book of the same name to showcase the collection of bikes amassed by Austrian designer Michael Embacher, has had a major overhaul, with 26 new race and track bikes added as well as 85 cycling jerseys and five video clips of Sir Paul Smith talking about cycling culture, as well as other new video content.

What’s more, the price remains unchanged at £6.99 and if you already have the app installed on your iPad, the upgrade, which requires iOS 5.1, is absolutely free and will be released this Friday 29 June – just in time for the Tour de France.

The upgrade takes the number of bikes shown in the app to 126, and as for the videos of Sir Paul Smith, who once harboured dreams of becoming a pro bike racer, all we’ll say is if you know of another internationally famous fashion designer who is able to trackstand while talking to camera, we’d love to see it (although obviously, when it comes to knights of the realm, we reckon Sir Chris Hoy might have the edge).

Produced by Heuristic Media in association with Thames & Hudson, publishers of the book, the app can be downloaded here and a short video has also been released highlighting some of the new features.

I reckon the closest you'd get would be a Kindle version; buy the dead-tree version for £14 from Amazon and skip Smithy's trackstanding.

We checked with the publishers, unsurprisingly it's a question they get asked a lot, their reply was that there are no plans for an Android version, "the app has been designed specifically for the iPad to complement its design."
