Danny Mills to set off on postponed Leeds-London charity ride - plus a triathlon - this Sunday

Ex-footballer and Celebrity Masterchef Finalist heads off from Elland Road at 5am on Sunday

Former England footballer Danny Mills has rescheduled the Archie Mills Memorial Challenge 225-mile bike ride from Leeds to London for the spina bifida charity Shine that he was due to undertake last month.

The ride comes ten years after Mills and wife Lisa lost their unborn son Archie to spina bifida. The couple were told four months into Lisa’s pregnancy that their son's condition was so serious their was no chance of his surviving.

Mills was forced to postpone the ride after being struck by gastroenteritis nearly a fortnight ago on the day before he was due to leave Leeds – coincidentally, falling ill on the same day that he appeared in the pre-recorded BBC Celebrity Masterchef final, won Emma Kennedy.

The ride will now start at 5am on Sunday 7 October from Leeds United’s Elland Road ground and after arriving in the capital Mills, who made more than 100 appearances for the club, will then complete an Olympic distance triathlon in Richmond Park starting from Pools on the Park at 8.30am the following day.

Mills is now more than halfway towards his £10,000 fundraising target, and you can sponsor him via his page on the charity website, Just Giving.

Danny Mills signs for Team Sky?

Shame it wasn't OPQS. "Mills & Boonen" would make a great leadout train for Cav....

Good Luck!!

I made a snidey comment on a previous report without actually reading it (assumed it was just another celeb pulling out of a ride due to bad weather) ... felt pretty awful when I took the time to read it ..

Hope it goes well, targets are reached, etc ..
