Colchester's not as nice as it used to be imo
This is far more common than people would expect.
We need more action by the authorities to punish these glass throwing morons.
Its normally quite simple to keep a record of their plate
Seconded.
Not so easy at night though, or when you're lying on the floor because you got hit with a brick.
I kept on getting passed dangerously closely on my way home by a UPS lorry but it always was out of view too fast for me to get the plate, but then one day when I drove to work I waited for it because I knew where and when it would be on the road and reported it. But that's not possible with just a random car.
When I hear this kind of news, it digusts me to think that a fellow human being could stoop as low as it is possible to go. These people need to be punished for their actions.
The law in the UK is so lax now, it's almost non-existent.
These attacks begger belief.
Something should be done before these idiots commit Murder.
I had a water balloon thrown at me whilst cycling and whilst I wasn't amused, their prank wasn't anything more than anti-social behaviour.
A brick or bottle is verging on attempted murder but the culprits probably had the same mentality as the people with the water balloon. Showing off in front of their friends, getting carried away and thinking it'll be funny without actually thinking it through.
I'd be surprised if it was because she was a cyclist, a walker probably would have got the same treatment. They were just degenerates with no respect for other human beings. They're the thugs you see in town centres on police programs, she was in the wrong place at the wrong time and ended up as the butt of their "joke".
I really wonder how long it will take for most of people especially those in power to wake up and start realising that the welfare system has been seriously altering the demographics of the country for a few generations.
Like some posters and many other people may suspect every year more and more idiots are being born in families which should be paid not for having kids but for getting sterilized.
Teenage pregnancies, binge drinking, mindless violence committed by youth, antisocial behaviour and other problems that the UK seem to be leading in can't be explained by "poverty" bad weather or "disadvantaged" background.
I suggest we all start using helmet cameras and place some warnings on clothes/panniers/bikes. There is nothing else one can do.
Sadly we seem to be breeding many more morons these days!
Horrendous - be good if the cops can catch these idiots but unless the family managed to get the registartion number of the car, it's unlikely.
I seem to remember someone flinging a potato off a bus at my mate when he was out riding, and that was 20 years ago. I don't know if these incidents are increasing, but they are of concern.
We had a speight in the chester/ north wales area of people putting wire at head height across a cycle path.Admittedly some of the local cycle clubs that use the path ride in huge groups 3 and 4 a breast at speed and that seemed to upset the locals, still to try and cause injury is no excuse.
That's complete nonsense. I am a keen club rider living yards from the Chester Greenway and have used the path thousands of times. Not once have I ever seen club cyclists or others ride 3 or 4 abreast. Just because a frothing at the mouth half wit writes a letter to the local rag claiming this to be the case doesn't mean it is so.
I was attacked with a large beam a few years ago. They hit me on the back of the neck but my backpack stopped it. I called the police but nobody came within 30 mins so I gave up. I put it on forums and three other people nearly got hit that night.
I've been attacked many times in three decades. There'll always be ignorant angry people. There are also now a lot more cyclists.
That's not to excuse it or to say nothing should be done.
Another disgusting incident albeit not that surprising for this country. Having been the victim of this kind of incident myself it seems like we breed more sociopaths here in the UK than our neighbours in mainland Europe. A Friday night in a British city centre demonstrates this as well as the white van man who smiles as he plays chicken with cyclists on narrow roads.
You can do all you want for cycle safety but until people learn to curb their aggression this kind of thing will continue.
don't know if it is rising, A few people i know had various things thrown at us on a number of occasions 4or so years a go. I seem to remember the police doing nothing about it.
I also had a can thrown out the back of a school minibus, response from the head when i complained was basically, i don't give a shit.
