New brand Veleco focuses on eco-friendly bikewear

Brighton company founded on fair trade principles

Veleco, a new cyclewear company with a focus on eco-friendly products and fair trade principles, have just launched their first range.

Quite a few new clothing companies have entered the market recently but Brighton-based Veleco say that they’re different from the norm in that their aim is, “To offer cyclists an ethical cyclewear alternative for guilt free riding.”

Veleco’s Urban‐Eco 2012 Collection for both men and women includes the Re:Cycle cycling jacket made from recycled polyester – it’s 12 plastic bottles’ worth.

The jacket looks pretty neat to us and features reflective detailing and easy-to-use pockets. Veleco reckon it’s ideal for use both on and off your bike.

The collection also features organic cotton cycling T‐shirts and hoodies featuring cycling and eco-inspired prints and designs, as well as cycle caps and musettes also made from organic cotton.

Veleco offer riders other ethical cycling brands too, including Velo‐re belts made from upcycled bike tyres and inner tubes and the Green Oil bike maintenance range.

Velecosay that all their products are made using fair trade, ethical and eco-friendly principles and they use natural and organic materials wherever possible.

Veleco workers receive double the minimum local wage. They also pay a 15% premium on every garment made, which supports health and welfare projects for the workers and their families in Pakistan. Their factory is also WRAP (Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production) certified.

“We will be launching more technical wear in 2013 designed specifically for urban riders, using innovative new eco fabrics and material blends,” said co-founder Jamie Lloyd.

Nope! Please stop! The lightbulb T-shirt especially. It makes my teeth ache.

Funny how the brain works, I saw the name of the company and immediately thought "How are they not sued by Campag yet?" Skimmed the whole article and scrolled up again and finally saw that it does not say "Veloce". Also that's some weird angles for the brifters for the chap on the left.
