crc_and1Chain Reaction release PRO-Cycling game for Android smartphones
Weather just too miserable to face the road? Can’t face the turbo? How about Chain Reaction Cycles' PRO-Cycling game, which is now available on Android as well as iPhone.
Granted it won’t keep you fit but it will give you a dose of pro racing fun. Combining strategy, speed and skill, the game lets you take control of a customisable rider and compete against opponents in a multitude of races and time trials.
And to make playing the game more tempting, CRC have just launched the Competition Leader Boards with some tasty - and expensive - prizes up for grabs. Get good at the game and you could stand to win some Mavic Cosmic Carbone SLR wheels worth £1,700, a Garmin 500 bike computer and a nutrition bundle from High5 worth over £100.
All you need to do to be in with a chance of winning is put down your fastest lap on the ‘Rural’ circuit. The top three finishers will win a prize. Sounds straightforward enough to us, now where’s the phone?
You have to upgrade from the free version of the game to the full version costing 99p to be able to register on the leader boards. You’ll be able to unlock new bikes and maps though, so it’s a small price to pay.

Ok, got it working, as said above, it is just like a driving test/parking simulator one and there are many of them about.
I like it because its cycling, a bit buggy, but will come good I think.

...and it's £1.49 on iOS.
First impressions are that it's basically a driving game, possibly using an off-the-shelf engine like Unity, but with the controls and presentation dressed up to be a bit 'bikey' You tilt to steer, press to accelerate or brake, double tap to sprint and refuel from some branded energy product icons.
It's ok - it doesn't particularly steer like a bike, you've just got a bike rider on screen instead of a car graphic. Graphically it's not bad at all for a phone game, the bike and rider are decent low-polygon models, and the animation is ok. The scenery is pretty plain but adequate. Runs OK on my 2 yr old HTC Desire on Android 2.3
The biggest flaw is that the following camera is fixed along the axis of the bike, it doesn't turn to lead the way you are steering so you are riding into tight corners pretty much blind - major failing for a racing game.
Anyway, its free, you might as well give it a go. To be honest it's better than I was expecting but I don't think it will hold my attention long unless I was desperate to win those wheels.
