Olympia 849 launched to celebrate 120th anniversary

Italian company celebrates 120th anniversary with a 849g carbon fibre frame

Italian company Olympia have marked their 120th birthday this year with the launch of the 849. It’s their lightest frame at 849g (size small), and is available now.

Olympia are one of the oldest bike manufacturers in the world, starting life way back in 1893. As we found when we tested the Ego RS recently, they continue to produce well designed bikes that embrace the latest technology. With the new 849, Olympia have sought to produce their lightest frameset yet.

It’s made from a combination of T800, T1000 & M40J composites with size-specific layup throughout, along with load-specific layup in the rear stays. The top tube has a triangular profile and oversized where it meets the tapered head tube (1 1/8in to 1 1/2in) to beef up front-end stiffness. A PressFit BB86 bottom bracket along with oversized chainstays should ensure a high level of stiffness when putting the power down. Skinny seat stays and a 27.2mm seatpost should ensure it’s a comfortable bike as well.

The frame is available in five sizes and can be had in a choice of nine builds, depending on how far your wallet can stretch, from a £3,392 Ultegra build or select groupsetsw from SRAM, Campagnolo and Shimano. Available only in Matt finish carbon fibre with white, grey and tricolour graphics
