Cyclist, 14, killed in A595 collision

Cumbria Police are investigating the fatal road traffic collision which happened on Friday evening

Officers are investigating a fatal road traffic incident after a 14-year-old cyclist was killed in a collision with a car being driven on the A595 in Cumbria.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened on Friday 8 April, at Prospect Hill, Waberthwaite, and involved a silver Kia Sorento.

Cumbria Police received a report of the collision at 8.06pm and confirmed the rider of the mountain bike, a 14-year-old boy from the local area, died at the scene.

The road was closed for an extended period of time and officers are now appealing for anyone who was in the area and may have witnessed the incident to contact them.

A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said:

Officers investigating a fatal road traffic collision on the A595 are appealing for witnesses.

At 8.06pm yesterday (8 April) police received a report of a collision on the A595 at Prospect Hill, Waberthwaite. The collision involved a silver Kia Sorento and a mountain bike.

The rider of the mountain bike, a 14-year-old boy from the local area, died at the scene.

Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed this incident to contact them.

Anyone with information can report it on Cumbria Police's website, quoting incident number 172 of 8 April 2022, or by phoning 101 or emailing the Serious Collision Investigation Unit via SCIU [at] cumbria.police.uk

Poor kid. My thoughts go out to his family. Hopefully the usually uninterested @CumbriaPolice will start to respond when cyclists submit reports of dangerous driving.

Whilst the police should do more on reports of dangerous driving, there is no indication currently that this was anything to do with dangerous driving.

Although failing to stop at the scene and render assistance does imply that the driver is attempting to evade justice.

No, it doesn't directly state that and I may be jumping to conclusions based on no mention of the driver and the appeal for any witnesses.

I've had a quick search round and most articles quote "No further details about the driver of the car have been released to the media" which is curious.
