Lusso's Nitelife Thermal Neck Warmer adds a little extra visibility to your ride, but first and foremost it's a comfortable and warm snood for winter.

A regular Buff has always filled the role of draught excluder for me, but the thicker construction of the Nitelife with a fleece lining has opened my eyes. Not only is it very snug, it's incredibly comfortable with a tapered shape to help with sealing out cold air.

The shape also has the added benefit of helping the warmer to hold its fit over the course of a ride, whether you choose to have it covering your mouth and nose or not. Time and again I've found with regular neck warmers that they'll bunch up during a ride, and that's absolutely not the case here, regardless of how you wear it.

The fabric is also fairly elastic so getting it on and off is easy, and the base spreads around the tops of your shoulders slightly, too, for additional sealing. At the front you'll find a Lusso logo, with the top half textured with reflective dots that reflect light shone directly on it.

I also noticed that it's genuinely breathable too. That word 'breathable' is overused in my opinion when it comes to cycling kit – but here it's well earned. Coming back after a three-hour ride in winter gear usually results in my baselayer and accessories becoming damp with sweat – but the Nitelife remained almost completely dry.

As a result, it's a very good accessory to have on cold and dark winter rides, and is subtle enough to work with just about any kit choice you make. It returns from the wash like new, and at £15 looks very good value – you'll be using it for seasons to come, I suspect.
