Rivelo Weston Jersey

The Rivelo Weston is a lightweight long-sleeve jersey that's good for typical spring and autumn conditions as well as for cooler summer rides.

The Weston is made from polyester/elastane fabrics, the main one having a brushed back and a super-soft feel, while the side panels and those on the sides of the back are made from a mesh that you can't quite see through. This lets in plenty of cool air.

Both are stretchy – really stretchy – so the Weston will accommodate various different body shapes, sitting next to the body with no noticeable tightness and little rippling even when you're hunkered down over the drops.

I found the sleeves to be cut long enough – and I'm pretty long limbed – with close-fitting cuffs, and the dropped tail ensures there are no gaps back there either. Elasticated silicone gripper tape helps keep it in place.

The YKK front zip locks wherever you position it and a little zip garage up top stops it scratching your neck. The zip is reversed – the plastic teeth are invisible from the outside – with a guard down the back.

You get three big pockets in the lower back, elasticated binding at the top helping to keep the contents from jumping out, with a fourth zipped and water resistant pocket that's big enough to take most phones. Mine, with dimensions of 138mm x 67mm x 7mm, fitted in fine, although without a lot of room to spare. Then you get a fifth pocket on the right hand-side that's designed for energy gels. That's not compulsory, mind; you can stow a mini pump, CO2 canisters or an emergency Snickers bar in there and they can't touch you for it.

One problem you can get with stretchy jerseys is that the back gradually sags if you fill up the pockets. I haven't found that to be the case here because the stretch is more sideways than lengthways, which is good news.

The Rivelo logo on the central pocket is reflective and it's large enough to be noticed from behind at night, and the same is true of the print on the chest, although it's in a less prominent position. There's another reflective logo on the sleeve. You could guess that Rivelo is a British brand because it's the right sleeve, where it's most likely to be seen by other traffic if you're riding on the left hand-side of the road. All the logos are still intact after several weeks of regular use, with no signs of cracking or peeling off.

I've got on well with the Weston, having used it lots on cooler summer rides (not during that heatwave we had!), usually first thing in the morning. I used it yesterday, for example, when it was dull and 15°, and I felt more comfortable than having bare arms. I could have put on arm warmers – you get about the same level of warmth – but if you're sure it's not going to warm up, a long sleeve jersey is just a bit easier.

The mesh panels let cool air in and humid air out and, of course, you have the full-length front zip to help regulate temperature. I didn't find the Weston especially quick to dry once damp, though. If it gets wet through sweat or a shower, it tends to stay that way for a while.

This jersey is a more than reasonable price for a lighter weight summer option. You can find cheaper from the likes of dhb, but £100 is pretty good considering what you get here. (It's currently reduced to £39.99.)

Overall, the Rivelo Weston is a solid option for keeping you feeling comfortable when you need just a bit more warmth than you get with a short sleeve jersey, and you can, of course, use it underneath another top if you need more warmth when the temperature drops. It's well made and comes at a good price – very good at the moment.
