At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

These are simple Coolmax socks for use in the spring, summer and autumn, and at £6.50 a pair – or four pairs for £20 – you won’t get too upset when they eventually wear out or won’t come clean anymore.

They’re a consistent weave rather than a mesh but they keep your feet ultra-cool, and they virtually never get noticeably damp even if you’re riding hard on a hot day. The manufacturers give them a temperature range of 6-22°C and we’d say that’s about right – although cold blooded types might want something thicker when the mercury dips below about 10.

The Prendas socks are reasonably hard wearing. We’ve used them loads over the years and have always got a decent amount of life out of them – they’re certainly not prone to holes or quickly wearing through or anything like that. They're very stretchy too so you can get a close, comfy fit without any ridges.

Apart from that, there’s not much else to say. They’re straightforward, they do the job well, and the heel and toe seems are so flat that you hardly notice them. For day-in, day-out use, these are a good choice at a bargain price.

As well as white, these are available in black, red and blue and with a range of different decorated tops. You can get World Champion, Italia and Peugeot designs, to name just a few.

Make and model: Prendas Ciclismo Coolmax socks

Size tested: White

Tell us what the product is for, and who it's aimed at. What do the manufacturers say about it? How does that compare to your own feelings about it?

Prendas Cycismo say, "Our best-selling Coolmax Socks are available in a variety of plain colours (White, Black, Red and Blue) as well as some additional specific designs!

Incredibily, they have been used in all sorts of events ranging from the Olympic Games to Weddings!

The nominal temperature range for these socks is 6 to 22 degrees Celsius (42 - 71 degrees Fahrenheit), but of course some people run hot and some cold. So it's up to you."

We're not sure we'd wear them to a wedding, but we agree with the rest of it.

UPDATE: since we received these socks to test they've gone up from £5.95 to £6.50, so we've amended the price. The multisaver (4 pairs for £20) still applies.
