The Specialized Pro Long Sleeve Jersey is a great no-fuss top for cooler weather, especially if you like red.
Made from Power Dry Soft fabric the Pro jersey is a cosy top. With an inner brushed fleece and a waffle textured outer it's perfectly suited to chillier days.
Fit is comfortably fitted without being too ridiculously racing-snake tight and it's not too bulky to sit under other clothes for mid-layer mid-winter warmth either. Riders with long arms can rejoice because Pro jersey has proper length sleeves that extend all the way over the wrist and onto the hand, no jersey warmth is cancelled out by freezing wrist-gap here. Hooray!
The collar rests high enough on the neck to keep a north-easterly at bay but the full length zip has no zip-dock top or bottom, which is an odd omission these days. How did we ever live without them? The hem is decorated with the Specialized logo picked out in silicone to stop things from slipping about.
The three rear pockets are generous enough to hold all the extra bikey bits and clothing accessories you might want to take with you on nippier days, and they don't go all saggy with weight. Once again it's kept simple back there with no extra secret pockets, zipped waterproof compartments or pump sleeves, just a little cat's bottom hole in the right hand pocket for a headphone wire to thread through from whatever device you prefer. There's a corresponding little cable clip up by the neck to keep the wire in place too.
If the very red with white slashes of the jersey isn't visible enough to alert even the most myopic of motorists to your presence, reflective slashes cut across the front and rear at the arm/shoulder junction and the top of the pockets feature a reflective band of piping. Plus, the rear of the right fore-arm has a sublimated reflective Specialized logo on it. If this red doesn't match your season's tonal palette the jersey is also available in an even more eye-popping Yellow/Black colour, and also a plain stealth Black option, which will go with anything.
The nicest thing about the Specialized jersey is its simplicity. There's very little in the way of pointless flim-flam or extraneous features. When it's a bit nippy out and you just want a jersey that fits and keeps you warm the Pro jersey is the first off the clothing pile. Throw a gilet over the top to keep the wind off and you've got yourself a clothing combo that'll see you through the equinoxal seasons.
Verdict
A warm and comfortable long sleeved jersey that will appeal to those who like a fuss free, logo lite top with proper length arms.
