new rapha sram canyon kit.pngRapha’s striking Canyon//SRAM racing kit now available for men
One of our first questions when Rapha released its strikingly bold race kit for the new Canyon//SRAM race team, launched at the beginning of 2016, was would it be available in a men’s version. And now we have the answer, as today Rapha has released a men’s range including jersey, base layer and socks.
Rapha designed the kit for the newly launched women’s race team, sponsored by Canyon and SRAM, with Rapha, of course, supplying the kit. The bold graphic designed, which Rapha says was “inspired by the tessellated effect of layered hazard tape,” was also used on the Canyon bikes, making this one of the best-looking setups in women’s professional racing. Certainly easier to spot.

The funny thing is, there was a huge amount of interest from men wanting to buy the kit. Now you can, but Rapha has only released a Men’s Canyon//SRAM Core Jersey and Pro Team Base Layer - there’s no bib short to match.
The jersey is based on the regular Core jersey, a more affordable top that the British brand released earlier this year. It’s available in six sizes and made from a soft and light stretch fabric with a full-length zip, three pockets and laser-cut grippers lined with silicone. It costs £75.

The Pro Team Base Layer is used for this special Canyon//SRAM edition, with a sleeveless design using a breathable mesh body with stretch Lycra side panels and a skin-tight fit. It costs £45.
Other items added to the range include socks in a choice of lengths and colour options. They cost £15. There’s a new Snood, which is basically a neck warmer for cooler days. It’s made from Primaloft and costs £15.

I generally don't buy team kit but I do love this design.
May have to make an exception and take the first step towards becoming an FPKW.

This has appeared though, gives some clue.
I would have bought one of the jerseys yesterday were it not for the fact that it has UCI womens team written on the chest. Why not just remove that for the mens version.
Well, it is a replica of the Canyon/Sram woman's team kit. To be accurate, it has to look like the original. They have some woman's jerseys for sale that don't have it, but they also don't have the team name either, they're just a similar pattern.
It is tempting, but if I buy it will I have to buy a Canyon too? Maybe if I don't buy the jersey I can afford a Canyon instead...
Best solution, someone buy the Large jersey and put it on ebay in about 18 months time, thanks.

Oh how can I possibly wear it whilst riding my new Canyon Aeroad, for it is indeed endowed with Shimano and not SRAM componentry....the ignominy!

One of the best looking kits currently. For all the gender disparity in the sport, women do get some better aesthetics. See also Specialized Lululemon (when they still existed).
Now to count down the days until the autumn when I've been told to expect the Wiggins range for women.
I'm sure this jersey is well loved by many (including several men I know who have been waiting for the releases) but it isn't my taste. I can, however, get behind my favourite Mod on two wheels and his kit and will proudly be wearing that as soon as possible.
I'm not sure it's common knowledge enough to expect people will assume you're in a women's jersey...and, let's be honest, there are many sports where people of both genders wear an opposite gender's jersey as a sign of support. This would come across as no different, I would hope. If it raises eyebrows over the supposed gender, there are bigger issues to tackle I'd say.
If this was just a tad different, and had something referencing solidarity to women's cycling that would be class. I'd be up for that.
Actually wearing women's jerseys, not so much, which is my feeling about this. Just my personal impression, would give kudos to any guy I saw wearing one though.

but if I wanted a Team Sky jersey, at the moment Id have to get the "mens" jersey,because they arent doing the womens cut versions, yet I doubt anyone would blink twice if I wore one or probably even really notice the difference just passing me by,so why would it be different swapped around ?

It's different because men aren't okay with wearing worms clothes in the mainstream. Women are however, hence boyfriend jeans, shirts etc.
Idealism is fine, but don't drag it out to some unrealistic and admittedly tedious extent. Frustrating to have to reply in such obviousness.
Societies are where they are, not where you wish them to be.
What's this all about ? If you like it, wear it, it's a men's jersey with a design popularised by a women's team. Totally fail to see any issue there at all.
Most people will just think "there's another lycra clad nutjob". Keen road cyclists will think "there's the funky Canyon //SRAM team colours". unconstituted will think "there must be some complex gender-issues here to agonise about"
Nah, but feel free to miss every point made to get a dig in.

Well, it's a men's jersey. It says so repeatedly in the article. So I don't think you need worry about your feeling, and I'm sure every man who wears the men's jersey will get over the fact that this means they are no longer eligible for your kudos.
People will think you're wearing a women's jersey though!
If they released them both at the same time would have been better. Maybe blacked out the men's version just a touch to distinguish it more. Guess they had no way of knowing it would be popular with guys.
This was a cool design though. Women must be well pleased with it. Rapha at their best.
