The Dirty Reiver 200km gravel event, after a very successful debut this year, returns for 2017 and entries open on the 1st December.
The 2017 event will take place on 22nd April, a time of year that, if this year’s event was anything to go by, ensures some challenging weather and temperature conditions as well as the distance and climbing that mark this event out as one of the toughest in the UK.
We're also excited to announce that road.cc is going to be the new media partner for the Dirty Reiver in 2017 so you can expect to hear a lot more about the event over the coming months.
- Dirty Reiver 200 – A lesson in hurt
The event (not a race because it uses some shared paths) is unlike any other previous UK gravel event in its scope and distance. It’s inspired by the US long distance events like the Dirty Kansas and others.
The Dirty Reiver takes place in the beautiful Kielder Forest, one of the few places in England that offers the expansive landscape necessary to make the event a single lap affair, and also ensures the ride will leave a lasting impression on your memory.

For the most part, the 2017 event will go unchanged from this year’s debut event, but the organisers have added a new 130km Dirty One Thirty option, which is amusingly described as an ‘introductory distance’.
“Gravel riding, though initially mocked and scorned as marketing hype, has now really started to find its place in UK cycling culture,” says organiser Paul Errington. “We were hugely surprised by the popularity of Dirty Reiver in its first year but rider feedback has been positive and we hope the event will grow year on year as we build a strong community of riders.
“Dirty Reiver is really a homage to the big Gravel events of the US that inspired the bikes we are seeing today.”
