New Halo Carbaura wheels launched with disc and rim brake options

Halo has just sent us news of its latest wheelsets, the Carbaura RC and RCD, a full carbon fibre tubeless wheelset available in rim and disc brake variants with a choice of 35 and 50mm depths, and pricing starting at £995.95.

The British company has developed the new wheels using Computational Fluid Dynamics testing backed up by thousands of miles of real-world testing, with multiple revisions put through their paces, before they were deemed ready for release.

The result, claims Halo, is that these are the fastest wheels it has ever developed. “As expected, our Carbaura RC50 is our most efficient wheelset to date, saving you an impressive 29secs over 40km when compared to the Devaura in drag alone - before taking any weight savings into account,” explains the company in its press release.

It also reckons the new 35mm rim is as aero as its previous 50mm rim. “The RC35 is similar in drag to our previous 50mm depth rims, but in fact, better at increased yaw angles, meaning better control in crosswinds without losing any advantage in out-and-out speed,” the company adds.

It has utilised Toray T700 carbon fibre to construct the rims with a 19mm internal and 25mm external width that it designed for tyre widths ranging from 25 to 32mm. The rim brake rims feature a unidirectional carbon finish with a 1.5k brake track intended to minimise heat buildup with the supplied SwissStop Black Prince brake blocks.

In their lightest configuration, the 35mm rim brake setup, the new Carbaura RC wheels weigh a claimed 1,400g, rising to 1,500g for the 50mm depth option.

The rims are laced to the company’s own hubs, RS front and RS 6Drive rear. There are fully sealed bearings and the rear hubs feature a 30 point engagement freehub comprising six pawls and compatible with Shimano and Campagnolo freehubs.

The Carbaura disc brake wheels using the same unidirectional carbon rim construction, minus the brake track, with a 120 point engagement freehub and an optional SRAM XDR driver body. Claimed weights are 1,500g and 1,620g for the 35 and 50mm rim depths respectively.
